MEET THE TEAM… SETH RUBIN – Global Head of Client Success

This week we had the pleasure of interviewing Seth Rubin, the Global Head of Client Success. Seth has put his DJing career behind him, to rock the performance marketing world. He will soon be celebrating 10 years with the company and is one of the most knowledgeable members of Team Webgains! Here’s what he had to say about what his typical day looks like and from where he draws his inspiration.

How would you describe your day job to a child?

I help make things that people love and help people with problems they don’t (love). I’m responsible for making sure people can buy things on the internet.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

Ha – a typical day?! There is thankfully no such thing. I start my mornings doing admin; emails, catch up on conversations with the US team, etc. and then have a stand up with my Integration Team. Once this is done, the day can take many paths – usually, it involves analysis and then discussing actions that need to be taken with various parts of the organisation. I am also often sat in meetings; both internal and external…either finding the next great “thing” or talking about getting that “thing” live and into the wider business. I fulfil a handful of functions within the company…from product development to client success, support to integration and client services and literally anything in-between. Most recently I’ve been working on the GDPR compliance and changes within Webgains to ensure that user data is handled in line with the regulation. I’m also currently working on expanding Webgains into markets far beyond…stay tuned!

How did you get into digital marketing?

I moved to London from Cape Town in 2008 without a job or any idea what I wanted to do. Having left my Masters in Information Systems behind, I decided that I wanted to travel for a few years before returning to Cape Town. My brother introduced me to a friend who worked at Webgains and said they were looking to hire someone to manage the integration and support functions for the UK operation. Next, I was interviewed (at Starbucks in Wimbledon) and hired soon after – the rest is history!

What advice would you give to recent new entrants?

Listen, learn and ask lots and lots of questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question except one that is unasked! We have such a wealth of knowledge within the company and every one of us; new and old, junior or senior, is approachable and willing to help you. Take it in your stride and you will soon start soaring.
