Mumtaz Khamker, Head of Client Strategy at Webgains

This week we had the pleasure to interview Mumtaz Khamker, the Group Head of Client Strategy at Webgains. Mumtaz works closely with our top clients developing business growth strategies. Mumtaz is based in our London office and here’s what she had to say about the challenges she faces, her drive, and achievements.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Making lots of money for my clients and for Webgains!

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

Plenty, winning some great new clients and learning to swim (still in progress this one!). But also building some great long-standing relationships with advertiser and publisher contacts, some span 10+ years!

How did you get into digital marketing?

By accident! While working at an agency that used to do PPT decks for banks, and they started building the first ecommerce sites.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Very commercially driven / but still a client champion

If you could switch job with someone, who would it be?

Richard Branson, someone I greatly admire! And think about being involved in Virgin Galactic 😊

If you could choose anyone, who would you choose as your mentor?

Our CEO I count as a good mentor!

What is your motto or personal mantra?

What does not hurt you only makes you stronger

What’s your favourite line from a film?

Get Away from her you b***h! (Ripley in Aliens – one of the first strong female characters in a film)

What are the challenges you’re facing in the affiliate industry?

We need to incubate more new publisher entrants across the industry, at the same time also help up and coming retail start-ups to really use affiliate marketing to drive lots of sales!

Last word: a recommendation, an idea, a quote to live by?

Don’t always rely on others; there is a lot you can do by yourself, take the initiative.
